Addendum
This section is provided in the interests of full disclosure.
The following "modifications" to this body have been made, many prior
to the vehicle coming into my posession. (Not included in this list are the
installation of sheet metal intended as repair panels or associated components,
and the drilling of descrete, "hidden" holes for the installation
of electrical components associated with the conversion to electric propulsion.)
- Conversion of the dash board to the earlier Karmann Ghia metal dash used
from about August, 1960 to about August, 1965.
- Removal of the brackets that mount the "vacuum canisters" which
are filled with "activated charcoal" and are a part of the original
1971 "evaporative control system" used to capture fumes from the
gas tank and burn them in the engine.
- Removal of the original Autostickshift fluid tank, vacuum canister,
and associated mounting points. (This is typically done when converting from
the Autostickshift transaxle to a standard transaxle.)
- Removal of the original air-cleaner "stand" on the right side
of the engine bay. (This is typically done when fitting dual carburetors to
a gasoline engine.)
- Filling of the mounting holes for the possibly original accessory rear luggage
rack formerly mounted to the rear decklid ("engine lid"). (A rear-engined
vehicle with rear-mounted luggage is a really bad idea.)
- Removal of the small metal brackets that support the retaining clips for
the back seat and attach points for the covers (right and left) for the cabriolet
top frame mechanism when in the retracted position.
Some of the removed items may be available to the purchaser.
